Our Weekly Homework Program

October 2nd - 8th

Our Program

Transdisciplinary Theme: Who we are

Central Idea: To achieve a balanced lifestyle we need to make wise choices in nutrition, hygiene, and physical and social life.

Lines of Inquiry:

· An awareness of our physical and social needs

· The practical consequences of a healthy lifestyle on our general well being

Reminders/Notes

  • Next week is our turn at AUB Park. Please have children put on appropriate footwear. Also the weather is changing, so have the children get a light jacket with them in case they get cold.
  • Send the Home Journals next Monday for checking.
  • Using the list of activities that is glued in the ‘Book in the Bag’ Journal, choose one to do after reading the book.

Environment Tip/News: Our unit of inquiry is direclty connected to the environment. Part of eating a balanced diet is also bringing healthy snacks to school that are garbage free. The less paper , plastic, and aluminum we use, the better it is for the environment. For the coming weeks we will be monitoring our snacks to evaluate how healthy it is and how friendly it is to the environment.

Check the journals in your bag. Decorate the cover if not finished yet, then laminate.

Open the fridge in your kitchen and in your Home Journal make a list of food items found.

Which of the food items found are your favorites? Which other favorite food items would you like to find in your kitchen?

In your Home Journal solve the following

Riddle:

I am a number that when you add me to another number, the sum will always be the other number.

Support your answer with examples.

In your Home Journal, write about things that put down the heart and things that open up the heart.

You can extend your ideas by including your wishes for the coming school year.

“ balanced” and “lifestyle” are two words in our central idea. Look up the meaning of those two words. What resources did you use? (internet, dictionary, etc.)

Read on a daily basis and remember to fill in your reading log.
